The undergraduate athletic training program at New Mexico State University is currently
accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), 6850
Austin Center Blvd., Suite 100, Austin, TX 78731-3101. The program has chosen to Voluntarily
Withdraw its CAATE Accreditation effective June 1, 2023, in order to launch a Master of Science degree in Athletic Training.

Athletic Training Program

The NMSU ATP is in the process of transitioning to a Master of Science in Athletic Training Degree. Applications for the first cohort of master’s students will open in Summer of 2023. Please click here for more information about MSAT.
The New Mexico State University ATP is committed to providing challenging didactic and clinical experiences which prepare students to take the BOC examination upon graduation and upon passing the exam are eligible to work as a Athletic Trainer (AT) or Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC).
 
Athletic Trainers are health care professionals who specialize in preventing, recognizing, managing, and rehabilitating injuries resulting from physical activity.  As part of the complete health care team, the certified athletic trainer works under the direction of a licensed physician, and in cooperation with other health care professionals, athletics administrators, coaches, and parents.  Athletic Trainers (AT) may be found in a variety of settings such as:  high school, collegiate, professional athletics, rehabilitation or industrial clinics, and military instillation.
